In the markets, resilience seems to be the theme. After a rocky start the week prior, all three major indices rebounded impressively. The Dow climbed 3.7%, the S&P 500 rose 2.9%, and the Nasdaq gained 2.5%. Easing inflation data has fueled speculation among bond traders that rate cuts could come as early as late 2025, providing a tailwind for equities.
Wall Street investment banks also delivered a standout performance last week. The iShares US Financials ETF (IYF) surged 5.44%, buoyed by a banner year for capital market activity in 2024—up 25% from 2023. Analysts are raising their 2025 forecasts, and insiders are optimistic that reduced regulatory hurdles and lower interest rates will drive even greater growth in the months ahead.
As President Trump’s second term officially begins, markets are bracing for surprises. Monday’s inauguration has already sparked speculation about his economic agenda and its potential impact.
